Use Pinterest to Keep Track of Your CHA Favorites!

Screen Shot 2012-02-06 at 7.01.41 PM

Did you know that you can save the CHA videos on Pinterest the same way you can save a regular photo image?

At the top of this post is a screenshot of my CHA 2012 Faves board. Click here for a closer look. I’m using it to keep track of all the products that debuted at CHA that I’m interested in purchasing as they release over the next few months.

Here’s what you might want to include if you create your own…

  • Create a board called something like, “CHA 2012 Faves.”
  • If you see stuff you like while watching a video, click the Pin It button and choose the image of the video.
  • Note the name of the company.
  • Note the release date if I shared it.
  • Note the specific products you’re most interested in.

I’ve only just got going on my list and I still need to go back to my earlier videos to add some favorites (you may notice that Tim Holtz and Heidi Swapp products are not pinned, though they definitely will be!).

Don’t overwhelm yourself, though! There is more gorgeous product than we could ever possibly use. And don’t let the amazing projects make you feel inadequate, either. The entire purpose of those CHA projects are to sell product. Unless you’re on a design team, that’s probably not your purpose. It’s definitely not mine.

I have a few pinterest boards going which I can use as a wish list or shopping list. I also started an I have board. Then I can see( and so can my Dh if he is gift giving) what I already have in my stash.

Noell, I have a “wishlist” board on Pinterest that I am using for this — Pinterest is the perfect place to store this information until things actually hit the stores.  :-)  Thanks for all your great coverage.

  • Dmeggison

I’m already a pin addict, great idea wonderful org tool it is.

  • KatieK.

Great idea Noell! I will start at your site as you have done a fantastic job highlighting it all. I am taking a work-at-home day so I will play all the videos in the background and try not to jump up to pin every 5 minutes.

We can then use our pin boards for our shopping lists when we are at our favorite LSS or virtual LSS – making sure we buy or wishlist the item we REALLY wanted. With Pinterest available on both iPhone and Android, they go everywhere we go.

I too love Pinterest, I already have a “shopping list” board and was thinking of putting some of the CHA stuff on it. But I didn’t know it would work while playing video. Awesome sauce!

  • Connie Hanks

Seriously brilliant! Seriously dangerous :) Thanks for all the great coverage at the show!

    Great idea! TFS!

ooooh, I already have a shopping list, but the “I have” board never occured to me. Great idea! (except I have so much, not sure what I would put on there) what I really need is to get the DH (and others) to go look at Pinterest in the first place. Need to throw out some hints…..

Yeah, the key is NOT to pin everything! :)

Thanks for all the kind words, Katie!

  • Marilyn

Great minds think alike….that is exactly what I’ve been doing!

I pinned a ton of stuff under my CHA 2012 board, and I like to use it to see trends – if you view it in the form where you see the lots and lots of photos you can see color trends and other types of trends.  I don’t mind pinning a bazillion things because I often Pin while doing my eliptical stepper routine and I have lots of boards.  I’d rather hoard scrapbooking supplies on Pintrest than in real life.  I’ve been using my CHA 2012 board as inspiration for scraplifting and using my old supplies to look new again.

That IS clever, Noelle! I really enjoy the videos and I do forget that they can be pinned too!

Thanks for sharing this, Noell.  I have REALLY enjoyed all your videos especially the demos.  It’s helpful to see how things are used.  And the PRT.  My husband kept hearing all the laughing and it made him laugh — he loved that you all were having such a good time!  Thanks for the thoughts on keeping perspective as well–I loved what you all said on the PRT — the best products are the ones that fill a need I have — not just to sell more product!  I appreciate all your teaching — that is meeting a need I have!

    Wonderful perspective! Thanks so much!

  • Sjay12

    Pure genius!  Thank you.

  • Ywhite99

Thanks for the great idea.  Love it.

  • Kiki K

I’m a pin addict lol! Last summer I made a board for CHA and it was usefull, so I’ve repeated it for the winter show. Back then, videos weren’t supported so I had to take notes. Thank you both for the CHA coverage! here is my board if you want to see http://pinterest.com/kikik/cha-win2012-wishlist/

  • KatieK.

Katie, I like your idea of ‘hoarding’ on Pin vs in real life. It’s funny how that does really help. If I put things in a wishlist cart, then I get most of the feeling of buying it and I move on.

  • caxton

Love this idea, but I’m too scared to join Pinterest as I hear it’s such a great time waster!!

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

It can be. I don’t personally spend a lot of time browsing, but there have been a couple evenings where I did get sucked into it.
If you browse it, you can get sucked in. But if you limit it to using it as a tool to keep and organize things you want to return to later then you’re not likely to waste your time on it.
