Show Notes: Paperclipping 48 – Summer Elements
Opening: With summer here, many of us are printing up photos from the beach or the pool. I remember ten years ago when the scrapbook stores were full of themed products like paper that looked like water and stickers of bubbles and beach balls and suns. I don’t really miss those days, there is a current trend to illustrate themes to a small degree, especially if themed items are handmade. Today I’ll show you some fun ways to turn some of today’s popular non-themed products into summery elements for your pages.
1. Scalloped and deco-edged papers–These types of papers with scalloped and decorative edges are everywhere. They may typically be used as a feminine touch to general pages, but right now, when we’re spending most of our days at the pool, they’re also reminding me of waves and water. Any of these edges would look great on a page about swimming.
2. {Show layout} Here is a page I made using three of those papers. {Show two scalloped papers and swirly edged paper}.
3. Diamond Stickles–To capture that reflection that sunlight causes, especially on water, I used Diamond Stickles on the waves, which gives it a glittery, glistening look, without adding or changing color. I also added it to the edges and rays of my handmade sun.
4. Flourishes–Just like deco-edged paper, flourishes, like the one you see on this paper here, are another great element that emulates the waves of water. You can add Diamond Glaze or Glossy Accents to them for a wet effect.
Close: I love the versatility of non-themed products. There isn’t a lot you can do with leftover themed items, but you can always adapt your general products to enhance a theme if you want. That reduces cost and waste, and forces us to get creative. That’s the best part.
