Scrapbook Storage: When Your Favorite Supplies Change

Narrow Shelves

Not that buttons were ever one of my favorite supplies, but I did use them more often than I do now. I rarely use them now (except for those super cute Jenni Bowlin buttons!).

With such few button-activity going on, why let them take up valuable real estate on my favorite go-to shelf — that one that sits within reach directly across from my eyes? I dumped my little glass dessert dish of buttons on top of the masks I may or may not have destroyed when I applied my heat gun to my art journal page before taking the masks off (oops!).

Mess on my desk.

And there my buttons sat on my desk while I hoped to come across a cute bag for them to store them in my embellishment wine box. That cute bag has yet to appear, so I finally gave them a baggie

(Dear little buttons — it’s temporary! Something better will come along, I just know it!).

Anyway…

The Embellishments You Use All the Time

I realized I use Tim Holtz metal embellishments . . . oh, almost every time I scrapbook. Why have those been in a box I have to get up and walk to? Why not put your favorite embellies within reach?

Dishes of Metal Embellishments
Here’s another idea. One of the Paperclipping Members once told me that she puts a very different type of item right in front of her — items she tends to forget about but wished she uses! Very smart!

Either way, whether it’s buttons or ribbon or flowers or something else, pay attention to the changes in what you tend to use. Organize your space in part by what you use most, or what you wish you used most!

Speaking of what you use most — what are the embellishments you find yourself using all the time lately?

I seem to be using alot of buttons…and brads. I never wanted to use brads in the past, so it’s kinda weird that now I’m all about trying to use them. It’s especially weird, seeing as how I accidently impaled my finger with my paper piercer the first time I tried it. I did figure out though, that for me, dumping all my brads into a cute little jar was not a good idea. Gravity makes them all face DOWN, so I can’t see what they are without dumping them all out. So now I need to figure out a better way.

I love buttons and ribbon, and have tons of them, but don’t use them as much as I’d like to… Now that I seem to be scrapbooking more often, I hope I use up lots of pieces from my stash :)

I’ve realized that I’ve finally love how my scraproom is set up now :)

After years of disdaining ribbon, I am now a ribbon junkie (due to a local Joann’s going out of business). So far I’m using it for my daughter’s hair and my iScrap project mini book. The only problem is how to store it!

I also love Tim Holtz embellishments! I especially like the game spinners and type charms. Right now they are in their original packaging and I keep them on a shelf right above my desk and easy to grab. I also like to keep my tapes (like tissue tape or dear lizzy tape) nearby. I think its a great idea to move stuff around! I go through phases of using things more or less. Of course I always go back to my old supplies and nothing gets completely forgotten. But its a good idea to leave something out as a reminder to use it. I need to do that with my plain chipboard.

BRADS. Can’t get enough of them. I love Tim’s stuff too – metal embellishments go well with my mostly masculine layouts.

Brads are always a go-to embellishment for me and I have them stored right beside my scrapping chair in an old library card catalog drawer that I can pull out. Inside I have the brads by color in those old Cropper Hopper square boxes, with a brad poked through so I can easily see the colors. I have pictures if this is clear as mud!
Lately I am in a clock mode! I got the new Bo Bunny clock paper and embellishments and am going slightly crazy over all the cool clock stuff I have found!

The brad storage sounds AWESOME!!! If you have pictures posted somewhere
online, please link them! I can totally visualize it but I would still love
    to see!

I made the mistake of passing up an amazing looking library card catalog
piece that was for an unreal price just because I couldn’t immediately think
of where I would put it. I’ve been kicking myself ever since.

You had me with Tim Holtz (heh-heh)!

Try getting a block of foam (like come in boxes for electronics) and stick them in the foam. This is what I use when I spray paint brads, nail or screws. (I often buy really ugly stuff cheap and then spray paint it the colors I use most.)

I love using my paper scraps with my punches. I also use a ton of metal embellishment. I hit the clearance aisles for the jewelery as well as thrift stores and estate sales. I love journal blocks and buttons too!

    Awesome! Another great idea!
