Scrapbook Storage for Die Cuts + Embossing Plates

Mar 2011 3235

Right now I’m keeping all of my die cuts and embossing plates in this decorative metal bucket. There’s only room for a handful more but I won’t be buying anymore for a while. I have plenty to last me a long time!

A Tip for Easy Die Cut Retrieval

Mar 2011 3241 (1)

One thing I refuse to waste time on are the plastic lips that close over plastic packages. Trying to pry them open and — even worse — trying to get the item past the plastic lip when you’re putting them back IN can really mess up your artistic flow. How sad is that when a bit of plastic is so grumpy that it scares your muse away?

I like to cut those plastic lip-thingies off so they can’t mess with me anymore.

Look how easy my dies slide in and out of the package now! Oooh! Ahhh!

Oh, the joy!

I don’t use covers at all,I don’t have many dies but the ones I have are on a drawer from a plastic cabinet

I don’t like the plastic containers either that they come in. I read somewhere to take the picture from the case and glue it on the back side of the die itself. I’ve done that to several of my Tim Holtz dies and I like that. No container and I can still quickly see what the die is and that doesn’t interfere with how they work either. Fun seeing how you do organize. You are an inspiration!! Thanks.

I love all your posts about storage Noell! I have discovered a great way to store my dies and embossing folders. I´m just moving into a new flat, and a new craftroom. I have a die cutting station, with drawers under it for my dies and such. They were falling everywere, and I was planning to create some kind of dividers between them to help them stand.

Unpacking some boxes that have been closed for years, I came across some SKUBB Storage boxes from Ikea. Would you imagine my joy when I discovered that they seem to be made to fit the Sizzix dies and embossing folders? And not only that, but the drawers from Elfa is the perfect size for three of the long ones, and three of the small ones in each drawer! One box holds 14 Bigz dies, and it still has room to flip through them :-)

I´m going to post some photos or a video at some point, but I want to finish the room first!

Love the wine crate! What do you store in the crate? Where do you get these?

I would love to see it! I’m curious to know what your station looks like and
where you’re putting the SKUBB boxes in relation to it.

Right now I’m storing my embellishments in there. I grouped my embellies by
purpose and gave each purpose a spot in that box. Some are in containers but
some areas could use some divider help.

Izzy got this crate from Costco years ago when he was still working for the
Man ;). He was buying wine for his sales reps and brought a whole crate
home. He had no idea I was going to want that box! I’ve asked our wine bar
and their staff always wants them, but Costco told me that if I ever see a
crate that’s getting close to empty, I can just take the crate and put the
remaining bottles on the stack below.

Also, at Total Wine they put sell their crates for something like $4.
They’re behind the register. I’ve gone to look once and they didn’t have any
    good ones at that time.

I think I’ve seen some gorgeous ones on etsy, but of course they’re quite a
    bit more money!!

More good advice as always. I’d be interested in knowing how you store the cut outs from your die cuts. Do you cut multiple pieces at once? I tend to trade with my friends, but I’m starting to get quite a collection of cut out die cuts and I’m not sure how to efficiently store them. Right now they’re all in a box, along with a bunch of commercial die cut cut outs. Any tips for that?
