    New Windows Please! :)

  • Tape+discus

Same window please! :) If I want a new window/tab, I can middle click to open it myself.

  • CindyS

New Windows please! I like to look at the products while I listen to you talk about them; but if I click on the product now, I lose the Roundtable chat. Then if I hit my back button I have to find where I was in the recording.

  • Marissa

Addition to my comment..The best reason to have the links open in another window…if you click on a recommendation link while listening, it takes you from your site and you lose your place in the audio feed if you are listening to it through the website. This happened to me the first time. Then I had to wait and let the whole hour load to get to where I was before in the show.

  • NO_Mom

    new windows please *wink*.
Izzy, love the commencement speech. I can't wait to see what you have cooking for us in your new venture. You have really peaked my interest. I am a SAHM and care to never go back to corporate again, I want to do what “I” love and be there for my family too. You guys are great. Love the show!

  • Karen

prefer new window, but i use right click

  • Karen

ok, so i'm here sitting here listening nad tagging my photos. Yay for me!

  • Amy

Hi! I'm loving the Roundtable (by the way)! :00 Thank you so much for doing it every week. It's my new favorite “fix.”

I like when links open into new windows or new tabs – so that would be my vote. Thanks!! :)

  • http://www.karenscorneroftheweb.blogspot.com Ladydoc

Hi! I’m back. I’ve not been writing comments for the last few episodes (though I have been talking to the computer). I think I’ll go back and write comments on those prior episodes soon.
Izzy, I vote for NEW windows. Sorry!
I like when photos tag themselves. Picasa organizes by date and by photo recognition. Of course, my i-phone adds geotags to the photos. One has the option of adding more tags in Picasa – at this time I’m not sure I need more. Can you tell I’m not interested in computers making life harder? I want this technology to make things easy. I’m not lazy. I just make choices about where I want to put my energy. I’m glad you did talk about this when you discussed the star system. I’m hoping Google will give us a copyright option in an upcoming version of Picasa. Plus, this program is FREE! I like that even better! (means that Goggle will probably add itself to the copyright but better than nothing.) Remember that Google’s Picasa lets you keep your original photo, too. Hope Adobe is paying attention. We need that option in PSE.
I believe that I heard on Pink Paislee that the Artisan Elements are made of vinyl. (mooshy was a good choice of words though, Noelle!)
I liked Nancy’s news comments. I think that it is true that there is a lot of cross over in what companies are doing. A lot of us dabble in other crafts and home décor so we like it. It certainly helps us develop our creativity and makes art a more integral part of life in general; not just new techniques for scrapbooking.
Thanks as always for the roundtable. Always enjoy it!
Unfortunately, hard to find the design book recommended. One at your Amazon link for $60. I'm not ready to buy it now. Any other sources if we might want to get it in the future?

  • A Faithful Listener

Izzy is right, it's bad internet etiquette to initiate open windows on someone's computer. Personally I find it aggravating when everytime I click on a link in someone's blog or on their website and it opens in a new window or a new tab. I end up with way too many tabs open. I definitely vote for right clicking and selecting 'open in a new tab' and/or just using my back button! :-)

  • Tanya

    I'm a new window fan too…….

  • Jaymi V

    New window, please!

  • Lynn Mercurio

As long as the new window takes me to the intended link, then I'm all for a new window. I'm like most crafters and love the quick process of not having to right click to open in a new window…I'm basically lazy and want you to do it for me! =)

  • Michelle

Okay, I had to pause the episode (and stop making my chocolate covered strawberries) to respond , so you haven't even finished reading the mail. I just wanted to say (before my chocolate burns) that the architecture here in Europe is absolutely inspiring! My scrapbooking has improved by leaps and bounds both because of the influences here and the subject matter. If you would like to do a show from Europe you are all welcome to visit me here in Germany! I don't know if you remember me, but you responded to one of my posts in an early episode ( I had the question about Scrapbook.com and APO's). Anyway, I want to thank you for a great show, I really enjoy listening, now back to my strawberries!

  • http://www.tortagialla.com Linda Tieu

I'm located internationally as well…and agree sometimes it's really hard to find the exact products everyone is talking about. I think that's why I'm so much more into general techniques, ideas and tips that would apply to everyone no matter what you use to scrapbook :)

I'm a mega tab user like Noell, so I don't mind new windows. In fact, a user can still control where links take them by choosing to open in a new window or tab by default. I think usually links that take you away from the origin website open in a new window, because it's a brand new place. Whereas links within the same site would not open a new window. The important thing for users is that there are no surprises!

  • mjgreer

Sorry Izzy but I'm a multi tab girl too, though I am not opposed to right clicking. Websites that don't allow right clicking and don't open links in new tabs are website that I'm not likely to visit again.

  • bunnyfreak

So I have been right -clicking to get the link. I would love a new window or new tab because I often check the links while listening. If a new window/tab is not opened I lose where I am in the roundtable episode.

  • http://www.karenscorneroftheweb.blogspot.com Ladydoc

I have not read past the first part of your first sentence. I am drooling! I am so sad that I missed a trip to a meeting in Germany as I had already arranged to go to CHA. (I got myself together and read on). It's so fun to connect with other scrapbookers around the world. I have scrapping friends from Seattle to NZ and “OZ”. It's an interesting thing to be a part of such a cool international community. I am a fan of architecture and loved my trip to Europe last year. Part of the trip in Spain, Portugal and Morrocco was with a tour group. Towards the end of the trip folk in the group were directing me to intersting features to photograph so I think I was obvious in my delight. How lucky you are to live in that enviroment!

  • http://www.karenscorneroftheweb.blogspot.com Ladydoc

Bunny, I do that, too! So frustrating to lose the program mid-sentence.

  • mjgreer

I just had to pause to tell you PSE 8 also lets you add key words, select which photos to upload and add meta data like copyright and creator same as Lightroom. Just click Advance dialog on the import screen. I believe PSE 6 also had it but I never knew about it when I was using that version.

  • http://www.karenscorneroftheweb.blogspot.com Ladydoc

P.S. My new Olympus point and shoot geotags, too. I just visited Kayla's blog and see where she blogged about this technology.

  • http://twitter.com/akgabriel Angela Gabriel

Note to Noelle: I have to admit, I'm less than thrilled seeing Scrapbooks Etc.

  • Heather

I vote for a second window to pop up when I click on a link.

  • http://twitter.com/akgabriel Angela Gabriel

P.S. I know that you can ask Scrapbooks Etc. to order stuff for you, but I want to see certain items in person before I buy them.

  • Sherrie Ray

I love when a new window opens – I don't lose where I'm at and continue to search away!! Thats one of the things I love about Ali Edwards site!! New window please!! Sorry Izzy, I'm in the new window camp!!

  • AnnieB

Love, love, love the Paperclipping Roundtable! Thanks and I hope you keep doing this for a long, long time. I love the product picks (although my bank account suffers!!), I find myself laughing out loud a couple of time in each episode, and I love the discussions. Just a funny thought on the “Organize Your Photos” espisode…you could have named it “Does That Make Sense” because I think that phrase was said by all four of you at one time or another and probably 10 or 12 times in all. But, it's okay…not complaining, just saying!

  • SparrowApril

I prefer for links to open in a new window.

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

Ahh, yes, I do remember you! :)

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

Do you mean the magazine or the local store in Mesa? If the store — are you
referring to the new sewing section taking over the store? I'm less than
thrilled about it, too! There aren't as many scrapbook products as there
    used to be!

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

Oh, I just saw this (I'm reading from my email) — you're talking about the
store. Yeah — it's always nice to see the products ahead of time!

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

Not sure that makes sense, Annie. Will you please explain what you mean?

    J.K. :)

    We noticed that too!

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

I was wondering where you went! Nice to have you back!

  • mshanhun

One thing about the season folders – what if you don't have distinct seasons! :) no snow, few autumn leaves here :)

I just ctrl-click (it works on a pc too!) to open the links in a new window.

  • Amy

Sorry Izzy, but I agree with Nancy & Noell, I prefer a new window. Thanks for another fabulous episode.

  • Terri Torrez

    New window please.

  • Terri Torrez

    New window please.

  • Mande

I like opening to a new window automatically. On my PC at school, I do a new tab, but it's a little different with my Mac at home. I never remember to hit the command key at the same time.

Comment about my photo organizing: I use iPhoto, and I organize in the EVENTS section. Each month I start a new “event” called with the month and year (May 2010, June 2010, July 2010, etc), and I dump all the photos for that month there. I can usually remember what month things occurred in, so it's easy to go back and find stuff if I have to. I also have an album for “Fave Photos 2010″, and I copy any of my very favorite photos into there. I have two reasons for this: I make a Fave Photos album each year, in 8×8 size, and this is for my kids to handle and play with, so once every few months, I print those photos or I use them to make digital 8×8 lay outs. And, I also have my ipod set up to sync with this album so that I can show off only recent favorite photos when I am out and about, and someone inevitably asks to see some photos of my kids.

I am really interested in trying Lightroom after hearing you guys talk about it so much. I currently use Picasa to organize my digital elements, but I would be interested in trying ACDC when it is released in Mac version. I am way way behind on my tagging for both photos and digi elements, so that would be a good summer project.

  • Mande

Oh, and I forgot to mention about Izzy's pick. I am a high school English teacher here in Japan, and our senior year textbook features this very same speech in chapter one. My students had to study the whole thing, word for word. It is very inspiring. It's the same theme as the poem “The Road Less Traveled” which was featured in a text book we used a few years ago. Funny how these themes keep repeating.

  • HeatherC

Good Show — orangization of photos is a big area! Digitally, I use Memory Manager by Creative Memories. It tags and does the star thing, although I mainly just use the tags. I set up tag folders according to Stacy Julian's LOM catagory drawers (adapted to fit my family) and this has really helped. When ever I download photos, I tag and have used the tags to locate photos for specific projects and mini books many times — great tool! Also, my personal backup policy is that FOR SURE, I backup whenever I get ready to dump the contents (clear) the card that goes in my camera. My photo program also reminds me to backup — I think weekly, but I have to admit that sometimes if I am busy, I ignore the reminder and make a mental note to do later.

One thing you did not touch on too much are the printed photos. I kind-of use the LOM system here. I am like Nancy — I print large batches of photos I plan to scrap and when that winds down (or there is a huge sale somewhere) I print more. I use an accordian file and as soon as I bring home my printed photos I sort them into catagories and file them in my accordian file — then when I am ready to scrap I can just select a group and am ready to go. The leftovers that do not make it into a layout go to cold storage, category drawers or to my 7 year old daughter who sometimes likes to scrap with me.

Pausing as I listen to say: I really dislike it when a site opens a new window on me. I'm used to right clicking on my Mighty Mouse and choosing open in new tab if that's what I want, but if I forget to do that, I find it easy to get back to where I was and really hate a new window (a new tab wouldn't bother me, but it seems to be always new windows, which litter my desktop).

  • Dpiercey7

New window please. When I'm visiting Ali Edward's site and click on her links I love how there's a new window. I tend to go down too many “rabbit holes” and forget where I started, and it's nice to be able to go back to the original site.

  • CarolineDavis

In a new window!! PLEASE!! I like to check the products while you guys are talking, and when I forget to right click/open in a new window, I LOSE THE PODCAST! And then I cuss. Out loud. In front my children. (ok, not in front of the children. But only because I don't listen when they're awake…because they might talk over you guys…and then I would have to cuss at them. J/K.)( Mostly)

  • Jaymi V

The Amazon link you've used only lists the used version of the book from 3rd party sellers. Amazon does have it new for $16.97. Here's a better link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1581802560/ref

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

This is hilarious, Izzy and I are sitting here together, reading comments,
    and you have us rolling!

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

    Thank you!!!

  • http://www.izzyvideo.com IzzyVideo

    Fixed the link. Thanks! :-)

  • Siri_F

    1. No new windows, new tabs are ok, but I always have only one window open.

    2. I only scrap old photos, and I don´t scan them first!! (Reason: If I didn´t scrap them, no one would ever see them)

    3. My grandma has a new way of organizing her photos, she has decided that she wants to be remembered as a beautiful lady, so she is tearing up all photos that she does not like. I find this so hillarious!

    4. I just got the wireless tiny apple keyboard, and now it will probably stay all nice and metallic instead of getting all covered in paint and glimmer mist,

    5. I want the basics!!! Problem beeing that I can´t decide which one I want, so I haven´t ordered any yet.

    6. Now I´ve lost my place in the podcast again….

  • Pattysmom28

Wanted to share the program I use to get rid of duplicate photos (best of all it's free!). It's called Dup Detector. I found out about it from Kim Komando (the computer guru). It's very easy to use, but just realize if you have LOTS of photos to check, it will take a while. Here's the link (directly from Kim): http://www.komando.com/downloads/category.aspx?…

  • http://thefragranthand.blogspot.com SparrowApril

Adding copyright information to photos was mentioned in this podcast. I see that my photo organlization software (ACDSee) has a place for me to do this on import. What information do you put for a copyright? Do you have to use certain wording?

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

I put: “Noell Hyman copyright 2010″ — or whatever year it was that I took
the photo. I don't know if this is the best way to do it or not but I
googled it and didn't find any specific suggestions, so that's what I came
up with. If anyone knows better, I would love to hear!!!
