Because my comment about the last episode wasn't, in Izzy's words, “glowing” I feel I need to let you know how much I did enjoy this episode. It provided me with information I can use. Specifically, by hearing about the different tools each of you wished you hadn't purchased or about those that are on your wish list provided the listeners with concrete information to make an informed decision if we are contemplating purchasing an item. Thank you! Also, thank you for making the decision to add an average, not in the business, scrapper to your panel. I can't help but think it will add depth to the program. Sorry I'm a bit wordy in setting up my thoughts, but I had so much to say, especially from the perspective of a newbie and someone who doesn't know much about the industry. The topic of why people don't scrapbook is a funny one because I think your listeners are scrapbookers – otherwise why would they be listening? Great info! There are so many tools out there, it is sad when you purchase something and it doesn't turn out to be as useful as you thought… but it is so great when you have that indispensable tool!

I'm located in Italy and it's definitely not as easy to get all the latest products and tools. There are stores, but everything is limited, far away and sometimes costs a lot more. Is there a Two Peas type of online store in Europe? hehe…

A quick comment on the Slice. I love my Slice. :D In terms of cost, it worked less to buy a Slice than to buy a bunch of punches in assorted sizes. Since I only own 3 punches, even though I've been scrapbooking for 10 years, it seemed to be the way to go.

I agree with Lain about that little sewing machine…I ended up throwing mine away. I also bought the Heidi Swapp Iron by Advantus for ironing iron-ons. Why? I should've just used my regular iron. I don't use my Crop-a-dile for scrapbooking projects, but I've used it for kid's projects. Another thing I bought that I didn't use much is the Cricut–I ended up selling it on craigslist. But, I've wanted a Silhouette for the last year or so, but it's not Mac compatible so it's a no-go.

I am sitting here listening to roundtable #5. And first I just have to say I am not going to comment on the 70's music thingy! Hee Hee. Lain was going through the reasons for not scrapping! I have to agree with Noelle that reason #4 should have been #1, because as a shop owner,( by the way we are very very rural), I was rather proud of myself the other day for coming up with this statement as I was helping a customer choose product. She was trying to decide what she was going to work on and as we were chatting she told me some of her ideas and that she wasn't sure whether she should try and “catch up” with her son's sports or do this other thing she had in mind…My answer almost automatically was” Ketchup is for hamburgers and fries, not scrapbooking! Do what you want to do because that is the story you want to tell right now!” So I just wanted to pass that on! Also big thanks to, I think it was Nancy who said that beginners really need to visit their local scrapbook stores for some individual help! That is what we have been trying so hard to make available to our area for the past 3 years. Very recently, there are times we have been asking ourselves how on earth to keep our doors open, as we become more and more strapped with our bills and overhead. I am glad I have another job that helps me to invest in keeping my little shop open. Please keep plugging for all us little shops as that is what keeps my spirits up! Keep doing what your doing, I know I have referred your show and your membership in various circles. I would like to ask if I could possibly make sure it is okay that I add your webpage to mine? It's interesting that being a professional in the scrapbook industry has become such a hot topic here. I have asked myself why does everyone feel so passionate about their opinions? I have come to the belief that it's because this is such a personal hobby. We all put our heart and soul into our pages, weather they are for our personal albums or if they are submitted to be published. We have labored over them, remembering, lovingly creating, and telling our story as only we can tell it. So of course we are all passionate about it. I think that's what makes this hobby so great. I get that the panel sees themselves as regular scrapbookers who make pages and tell their stories just like the rest of us. And while this is very true, you are more than that. You are on the inside of this industry too. So I find it a little funny that you seem surprised, a little defensive, by the comments about being in the industry. It's obvious your listeners think highly of you and your work in the industry or we wouldn't be listening. Personally, I am very impressed with the panel and have admired many of them for years. However I stand by my comment that it would be great to expand the panel with a “regular” scrapbooker. I was happy to read about the contest and if it works out I hope you would consider making it a regular part of your show. Finally, I want to say thank you. Thank you for listening to your listeners and giving us a voice, and thank you for all the hard work I know it takes to keep this all going.

Hey Noell and Izzy…

I'd love to see you do a show with a panel of scrapbook store owners from different areas of the country. Would be so interesting to hear what works, what doesn't, what is popular in that area, different ways they are bringing in customers, etc.

Comments on the Slice:
1. It is an amazing device that is very portable, I own a Cricut, but I bought a Slice for crafting on the go (actually for using when I traveled in South America).
2. The cards (SD cards) are quite cool, neat images.
3. They are just releasing a magnetic board/glass mat for it to sit on, with a matching “ring” that goes over the Slice to hold it to the glass mat while it's cutting. The other side of the mat is a foam mat (like a mousepad) which is great for embossing the same images rather than cutting them out (there are embossing tips available for the Slice – they replace the cutting blades).
4. It weighs very little, takes up very little space, has a nice case available as well as a small binder that holds the SD cards and image booklets.
5. Making Memories customer service rocks! I love their stuff, and know that if I ever have an issue with something they make, they will take care of me.

Nope, don't work for MM, just love them as a company!

Ha! – Noel when you brought up the brave question of tools that are a waste of money – I said out loud to my empty house, the Tag Maker Tool! So I had to laugh when Rene mentioned that tool, as well as another colored staples, which are pretty much eye candy. I had also bought the colored staples, but when I was home, realized they don’t work in a regular (at least mine) stapler. Anyone want these? You can have them if you pay the postage. (U.S. only)

As for a future show suggestion:
Scrapbooking for the family vs. each child:

For Example:
Say you went on a trip and visited family and a theme park. You come back with 450 plus pictures. You have three kids: one is into roller coasters, one is very close to her cousin (family visit), one is a teenager that goes off and takes 120 emo. pics of herself and some art-type scenic photos. Oh – and you got maybe 4 good photos of your relatives because emo child drained the camera battery. How do you scrap/divide these memories? Make a mini book x 4? Do you make special layout for each child? Just wondering how you would file/target this type of project.

This is not an entry for the contest, but a comment on the episode. I don't personally like the look of the I-top (when you use paper, you can see the folds where the paper tucks under the metal), but I do like the idea of making my own brads. I have been using the Build-a-brad from Stampin Up ($9.95 for 24, http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ProductDetails.a…) and have been really happy with it – the only additional tool you need is a 1/2″ circle punch. The product comes with a metal base, you adhere a 1/2″ circle that you have punched on top, and then put a clear epoxy circle (included) on top of that. The metal bases come in pewter or brass. I have made brads with ribbon, patterned paper, even an image I stamped, and I really like the way it looks on my pages. Because of the metal rim that shows through at the base, I think it looks more like a real brad than the i-top brads do.

(For the record, I am *not* a Stampin Up demonstrator, just really like this product. And maybe it counts more as a product than a tool?)
