I scrap the same as Pamela. I almost always start with a story and use generic photos a lot. Great show! It’s the first show I’ve listened to so I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

  • http://keepinglifecreative.com/ Pamela Donnis

Hey, Izzy and Steph, I have a GREAT idea! You should do an interview show. ;)

  • Iceteeeeee

When will you start your interview show? JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • keepscrappin

Great discussion. I have a big box here of old photos that I got from my dad when my mother passed away. I’m supposed to scan them in and share them with my brothers and sisters. Hmmm… maybe I’ll just look into one of the online scanning services so I can spend my time scrapping with them instead of the tedious scanning work.

  • Michelle VO

Great show! I wonder if Steph would be up for a Scanning Service Review post…like the photo book review post. I would definitely be interested in the “best” service. There is such a trust factor involved and it would be interesting to know what the actual differences were between services.

  • http://keepinglifecreative.com/ Pamela Donnis

It is very tedious and takes FOREVER if you are just using a regular scanner. If you just do a few at a time, it’s not a big deal, but yeah, if you have a box full I would think it would be worth your time to use a scanning service.

Wow, great episode so far! (I’m only partway through). I loved hearing Steph’s story about sharing the same experience with Grandma in having a husband diagnosed with kidney failure, the difference being that technology saved Steph’s husband. Wow.

And what a contrast, too — you saw that you had almost zero information from Grandma abt her experience, so Steph was sure to leave her thoughts for her children. Very inspiring. Thanks Steph!

Thanks so much for this episode of the Digi Show!! I really enjoyed listening and I was so happy to hear the discussion about the scanning service!!! I remember talking about this years ago in one of the forums and I forgot the names of the companies that did it! I really need to use this service because I have thousands and thousands of pictures. Love all the ideas…THANKS!!!!

  • Kim Jensen

Wonderful episode! I loved hearing everyone’s perspective on writing and the inspiration for their stories. I’d also love to see some in depth info on scanning services. I don’t mind so much scanning the prints (when I can actually find the ones I’m looking for), but the slides are more of a pain. I’d love to find a service I could trust to handle the dozen or so reels I have of my parents’ slides.

  • Mary-Kay T.

Great episode! I was really interested in hearing about the scanning services. I would LOVE to here an episode all about this as I have quite a few negatives, and some of those very strange cartridge style negatives. Anyone remember those cameras and the strange film that went in them. There were no negative sleeves handed back to you, it was just a little cartridge thingy with the neg. inside. I would love to send those away to make them digi.

Also do I hear Ali saying “AlbLUM” of “AlBUM’? I think I’ve heard her say that before, but I’m not sure. Anyone know? I’m so out of the loop!!!

  • Mary-Kay T.

Sheesh, can I spell?????? I meant to say “hear!”

  • ErinK.

LOVE Cozi! It is awesome. I use it everyday. Super easy to use.

Another great show! I really enjoyed hearing the perspective of story first, photo later, if ever. I have a lot of generic, every day photos and when I try to scrap by focusing on the photo first, I start to feel as if I’m making the same layout every time. Perhaps I’ll try thinking of stories first and then choosing a photo later. This will also help scrapping holiday/themed layouts because I often neglect to get a lot of photos during events. I get so caught up in living them that I forget to photograph them.

I really loved this episode, and it really got me thinking again about scanning some older pictures. My mother passed away in 1991 when I was 19, and I don’t have many pictures of her – just a small photo album. My father is very reluctant to part with any photos that he has and I’ve always wanted to get them scanned because I’d love to scrap more about her and what I remember of our life together. I know that he’d never trust me sending them into a scanning service, so I had to think of other options.

After listening to this show I was inspired to order a portable photo scanner (putting my Amazon Prime to good use yet again! LOL) and can’t wait for it to arrive. I already have an all-in-1 printer/scanner, but it’s really not that convenient to use. The portable scanner I ordered has an SD card it scans to, so it doesn’t even need to be connected to a computer, and is about the size of a 3-hole-punch. I’m planning on scanning the small amount of photos that I have of her while scrapping or watching TV. If it scans well enough, I’ll take it with me the next time I visit my Dad or any other family members and dive into their picture stash. Along the lines of something Katie mentioned – I’m not real concerned with having perfectly scanned pictures, because I know the original quality of the pictures is pretty poor, but just to have more photos of my Mom in my possession will absolutely thrill me and I can’t wait to start scrapping the stories that I do remember of her. She was such a beautiful person and I want my children to know of her and see where I came from.

Thanks again for such a great show and for the motivation I need to document more stories of my life :)

That is a great idea Jenn! I may have to look at getting one of those :)

  • Steph (DailyDigi)

LOVE the ideas Jenn!! I’d be really interested in hearing how that scanner works for you! :)

  • Steph

I like this idea a lot too. I get so tired of event scrapping!

  • Anonymous

I’m thinking you mean slides when you refer to cartridges…maybe? Most of the photos from my childhood are on slides…lol! We’ve talked about scanning in a couple of other episodes too. It seems to come up now and again.

  • Anonymous

    Thank you, Noell!

  • Anonymous

My oh my!!! We have talked about it, scheduled it, rescheduled it, and put it on the back burner…lol! The biggest obstacle is the cost of doing a review like that as I would need to get the same photos scanned at each place. In the past, when I have done those reviews, I pay for everything and set up fake names, etc. I didn’t let companies know that I was going to be doing the review. Although, most companies have found me since the reviews were posted and offered to reprint for me on higher quality paper, etc. (which I have not taken advantage of, except the one company that just reprinted my order and sent it without asking).

Scanning is so tedious….I put it right up there with editing photos…haha!

  • Anonymous

    Welcome!! :)

  • Jenn Lindsey

It was delivered last night, and I immediately put it to good use! Right out of the box, all I had to do was plug it in, insert the SD card, and I was ready to go. It’s nothing flashy – only scans in either 300 or 600 dpi. It’s got a little plastic sleeve you can put your photos in if they’re not real flat, and it’ll scan up to 8 1/2 x 11″ originals. I was able to easily scan 20 photos in under 15 minutes from receiving it and I’m in LOVE! I’m scrapping with pictures of my mother from 1949 right now :) The quality is no worse than my originals, and that’s all I was looking for. Here’s the link to the scanner: http://www.amazon.com/Pandigital-Photolink-One-Touch-PANSCN06-8-5-Inch/dp/B0035WTCU4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1294751086&sr=8-3

Wow — I just have to laugh about the fact that most of those companies came
back to you and suddenly wanted to do a better job!

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

I spent two days of my visit to my parents scanning photos. I started when
they got married and only got to my 4th birthday. It was only 1 photo album
out of 8 or 10. But I’m glad I did it and can’t wait to go back and do more.
I don’t think I could risk sending them off somewhere — especially not
    overseas!!! Yikes!!!

  • bluerose

amazing episode as usual…I dont know if it was in this show, but please keep inviting the “repeats”! I love being able to recognize the voices and even the laughs (as you did in the 50th PRT show)…I feel like I almost know some of you..please dont get me wrong, I enjoy new guests very much but dont stop inviting the repeats…

the other thing…I’ve been trying to go back a few episodes and find that guest that uses the Mac Version of PowerPoint (Izzy dont kill me for not knowing the name LOL) and I cannot find her…does anyone know?

about searching in older episodes, I was thinking we could create keywords for the episodes…I know linking everything you talk about is too much work…and I know you put a lot of time already in the show..but maybe you can create a field for listeners to input a few keywords for the show…and when we want to relisten we can use those for the search..is that even possible?

    thanks for another great show!

I agree about the keeping the “repeats”! Like having seconds of a great meal, each episode with Kate the Scrapbook Lady is just more of a good thing!
