for printing fabric in the UK I have heard of this company http://www.thefabricpress.com/index.htm (not used personally so cannot comment on quality)

Great, great show. Wonderful. Inspiring. Got me thinking! What can I put here? Hummm…
I have printed a few canvases from Artscow; it takes forever to get here from Hong Kong, but not having anything to compare the quality with, I've been very pleased. Especially given the prices and sales.
And, I really, really tried to understand Tumblr. I think I'm as smart as the average bear, but I don't get it. I tried to search for Kelly in the Search Tumblr box, but only got some random person whose Tumblr name bore no relation Scrapstudio! Are there tutorials for Tumblr? A how-to guide? Something? I've heard too many scrapbookers say how helpful it is to give up.

I just did a project for my baby's room using digi supplies. I covered frames (that were old) with digi paper. I made the pictures inside in PS. Here is a link: http://www.sunshinestudioscraps.com/gallery/sho…

I've been dying to try out ink jet iron-on transfers. I have a project idea in mind for a cute t-shirt with botanical/flower silhouettes on it. I even have the perfect brush set already, just need to buy the paper. LOVE all of the ideas. Thanks so much!
p.s. I'd like to see Kelly's canvases, are there pictures on her blog or somewhere else? Thanks.

  • Helena_c

as Izzy said – this is going to be an expensive show – but so exciting, while listening I started to design the fabric for the daybed in my craftroom and think about which photo of the kids to print on canvas for their grandparents' christmas present and which wordart I want in the kitchen. I've been looking for existing products to buy for decor and now I'm thinking a whole new way – thanks heaps.

I know that the digi designer Sarah Meyer / Sarah B Designs ( I Ct for her) sells fabric versions of some of her digi papers at Spoonflower. If you want to check her out go here: http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/sarahb
I would think there might be other designers that do this as well.

  • Rebecca

Janet…we'd LOVE to see more of your homeschooling projects!!!

  • Lynn in FL (wearefamilyw)

What did you use for the digi paper on the frames? Did you print it out on photo paper, cardstock… or something else? I like this idea.

  • travelgirl

I have to say I was a little upset to hear Kelly say she hasn't scrapped because her kids are all grown up. As a single girl with no kids I can tell you that you don't need to have kids in your pictures to create meaningful scrapbooks. I think it realy hurts the hobby when the sterotype is that you can only scrapbook if you have kids. And having people say they can only scrapbook about their kids just adds to the sterotype.

As always, thanks for another great show. I love having this resource at my disposal. I learn a lot from you and your rotating panel. Brilliant!

Since you were discussing it, I wanted to stop by and post a link to a great tutorial for DIY shadows by designer Peppermint Granburg: http://frickonastick.com/2010/03/shadow-files-the-basics/

I love how she uses the Linear Burn mode (instead of Multiply) and how she uses a Gaussian Blur to add a second shadow. I use her methods now and I'm a lot happier with my pages. :)

ps. Vol 25's Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/vol25

Yeah–I had to look it up. ;) WOW! Pretty stuff.

Great topic! It's always great to find multiple uses for the things we buy. I think digital scrapbooking products can be used for other papercrafting projects. Kits are great for creating matching stationery, printable cards, party favors, decorations, placecards or nametags… lots of paper related uses for me.

I've also used Spoonflower before, it's fun to create your own custom fabric designs for a particular project. You can also get custom printed products from places like Zazzle and Cafe Press, just make sure you don't sell them, since most scrapbooking products are for personal use, not for commercial unless otherwise noted. :)

While I totally agree that there is plenty of value in scrapbooking about ourselves, I wonder why Kelly's own personal decision upsets you? She didn't say we should only scrapbook about our kids. She just personally feels less motivation to scrap now, and feels more motivation to do some of the other things she's interested in.

  • Teri

I printed it on white cardstock, but it's pretty heavy and doesn't fold the easiest. I might suggest a lighter weight paper.

  • slbarton

I have a question for those who have succesfully done iron ons – I tried this and failed miserably because the iron on wouldn't transfer before the material burnt — I followed the directions, but it happened twice!! Would love some tips.

  • http://claimid.com/webseitler Nicole Seitler

Here's a post from The Hybrid Chick blog about iron-ons that you might find helpful: http://www.thehybridchick.com/2009/03/custom-baby-gift/

I haven't had any experience with this myself, but there are some great tips included here. :) Hope that helps!

The day before I listened to this episode I began designing a notebook cover using digital designs. Shutterfly prints notebooks with your own design on the cover; I plan to give some as little gifts at Christmas, so, not home decor, but not a scrapbook page, either! I also used a photo plus digital word art, printed it small, laminated it, and added an eyelet to use as a keychain.

  • DailyDigiSteph

I had no idea you could do notebooks at Shutterfly!! Oh! the things I can think of to do!!! :) THANKS!

  • DailyDigiSteph

That's exactly what she is doing…just making more time for her other passions and interests right now.

I scrapbooked long before I was married OR had kids, but I happen to not have too many big hobbies outside of scrapbooking and scrapbooking related things (photography, hybrid projects, etc.) But, I can imagine if I did, I might feel less passionate about scrapbooking during certain times in my life and want to make more time for some of those other hobbies.

Loved the show! Can't wait to try some home decor ideas. I also was trying to find the Drop Shadows that Janet mentioned and it looks like Kristen Rice is no longer at After Five Designs. I found her at http://www.kstudiofix.com and she has a shop where you can find her drop shadows. I also searched and found Traci Murphy shadows at http://tracimurphydesigns.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=11 – not sure if it's the same Tracy Murphy or not…

Thanks for a great show as always!

I have no problem that Kelly is doing other things. I know we all go through times when we don't want to scrap. What I do have a problem with is the idea that you can't scrap without kids. That is how I took Kelly's statement. If someone like me were to pick up a SB magazine for the first time, they would probably think they can't scrapbook because they don't have kids. That's what I was getting at.

Since I see I'm not allowed to disagree with anyone on the show, I will no longer comment.

  • http://www.paperclipping.com Noell

Travelgirl — You misunderstood me. And we encourage speaking up when we

disagree with each other on the show. We talk about that all the time on

    both shows.

I agree with you that if a childless person were to pick up a magazine, or

even listened to some of our episodes, they might think it's a hobby for

parents. And I agree with you that that is not the case. I was a scrapbooker

all of my life, long before I had kids. I agree with you that that is a

problem. And I don't want to spread that misconception either.

I was just trying to explain that the way you took Kelly's statement is not

the way Kelly said it, nor the way she meant it. And I think it's important

to consider how the person meant it. I know I don't like to be

misunderstood. The belief that people without children should be encouraged

to scrapbook is not at all related to Kelly's personal interest in focusing

on other things at this time.

    :)

Anyone know where is the cheapest place to order a 20×24 stretched canvas?

  • dawn

just got caught up on a couple of episodes, and loved this one! i would love to see examples of some of the projects mentioned, if anyone has anything posted anyway. thanks so much!

I display my hardcover scrapbooks around my house. The cover of the album is the art I’m displaying.

I have fancy easels I’ve purchased (love those Michael’s 40% off coupons) so the Hawaii vacation book is displayed on the back of the piano.

I use a metal scrolled rack (It was designed to hold 4 hand towels in a bathroom) in the living room. It holds “13 things I love about you”, “Mommy tell me about when you were little.”, our most current yearbook, and our Disneyland book.

Upstairs in the window seat there is Mommy tell me about when I was little &…

I love that the actual books are displayed because besides being art, they are an invitation to open the cover and relive those memories.

Another plus for digital: I would NEVER consider displaying my paper scrapbooks. They are too big, too bulky, and too “precious” to actually be LOOKED at. But if someone spills their drink on my digital scrapbooks, I’ll be annoyed, but I’ll just get it printed again.

For canvas printing, http://www.canvaspeople.com. They frequently have a free 8×10 offer (or $55 off any other size) Follow them on twitter or facebook for notifications.

Love, love, love the show. I’ve now gone back and listened to every episode. Are you sure you don’t want to start doing 2 per week?

Oh wow! I just wanted to pop in and say thank you to Janet for mentioning my designs as her pick of the week! :) I have been working my way back through the older Digi Show episodes (they are the perfect length for my morning dog walk!!) and was really surprised to hear my name! Thank you for the mention and for all the inspiration you pack into the shows, I wanted to let you know that all the time and effort you put in is really appreciated :)
