Documenting Teenage Growth and Change

Am I there Yet?
Every few days this entire school year Blake has walked up to me, compared his height to mine, and then said, “Dang it!”

On Feb. 22 I said this about it on the Roundtable:

“For some reason he thinks that one of these days he’s going to walk up to me and he’s either going to be as tall as me or taller.”

Guess what?

He was right.

He DID walk up to me outta-absolutely-nowhere and bang — he was totally taller.

How did that happen so fast?

Document Teen’s Crazy Growth and Change

Here’s another way to document it:

Having a teen is like having a toddler again. Keep yours eyes open, Moms and Dads! You, too, Grandma’s!

Do You Have a Teen?

What are you noticing? How are you documenting it?

Omg this makes me want to cry. My son just turned 4 and I already see so much change. He will most definitely be taller than me sooner rather than later. I love how u documented this.

my twin boyz will be 6 years old next week.  I sure hope they’ll be taller than I am when they are all grown!  I’m 5′ 7″ which is fine for a woman, but I’m hoping they’ll be at least 6 feet tall :)
I can’t even imagine what it’s going to be like when they are teenagers.  I still call them my 4 and 5 pound babies… sigh…

I carried Aiden for many years, too. He’s such a little guy so it was nice to be able to hold him at an older age than the other two. I can’t remember when he got too big but it doesn’t feel that long ago.

Wow I’m tearing up too!  What a milestone.  I bet now he’s aiming to pass Izzy.  I was so surprised when you put, “Having a teen is like having a toddler again.”  I have made this statement myself.  My situation is unique because I have a teen and a toddler myself but most of my friends have young kids.  They have no idea what they are in for with those teenage years.  I’ve warned them all, teenagers have to be monitored just as much as a small child.  Now they have the physical ability and freedom along with that impulsivity.  Hold on to him tight Noell!  Along with giving him room to stretch his wings of course!  Isn’t it so bittersweet watching them grow?

I do love seeing them get older. So far it just gets more and more fun! It’s fascinating to see real senses of humor as well as individual passions and skills developing. I’m lucky, though, in that my kids are pretty rules-oriented and safety-minded. I keep having to remind them of their new freedoms ie. Blake’s old enough to go to the mall or a movie with a friend but he keeps forgetting those are options!

Yes! I have a teen, and he is changing so quickly. I documented his first shave, and I’m making a LO of him at each year with traits about him at that time. I’m posting one taken right before his 16th birthday, which was a year ago, one when he was 12 and one when he was 5. These are some of my favorite LOs.

Awesome! Made me realize other things I should document about what he’s like right now.

    awesome layouts.  TFS.

Don’t forget to capture the changing voices! Unfortunately I wasn’t into scrapping when my son was going thru these changes. He is now 22, 6’3, and can easily pick me up….I love seeing the man he has become. Don’t worry, ladies. Inside the man is still your little boy. On my last birthday my son gave me a card that said I would always have a piece of his heart. I said if I never get another card from him, that one will last me forever!

Yes, that’s definitely a part of life right now! I’ve been thinking about how I would want to capture an audible story like that. I might just settle with a description of the things we notice, like the octave drop of his laugh!
