Choosing an Album for a Dance Scrapbook

scrapbooking 4452

For me it’s been easy to choose albums for my four basic themes of scrapbooking (based on Stacy Julian’s Library of Memories). They’re general themes and don’t require any specific look:

  • This is Us
  • People We Love
  • Places We Go
  • Things We Do

I’ve found it much harder to pick just the right album when it comes to more specialized themes, like my daughter’s dance scrapbook. I wanted an album that goes with her dance company look. The albums available are a bit more traditional than her company’s on-trend white and black zebra stripe pattern.

I went back-and forth between this gorgeous pin stripe album , and the black with embroidered frame that I ultimately bought, and which you see above.

I went with my gut. Of these two options, the framed album felt the most similar to Trinity’s dance experience. And that’s how I most often choose any products I use — the products that feel most like the stories or experiences I’m scrapbooking.

Love American Crafts albums, especially the embroidered ones! While the dance scrapbook is specialized; I think I’d just call it a subcategory of ‘things we do’. If one likes to keep a consistency with albums, the American Crafts give you lots of opportunities to have lovely designs with a general consistent look. We R Memory Keepers has quite a nice range of colors in their 3 ring albums; so, one could have that versatility, too; if color was more your thing. I have a problem with WeRMK page protectors, though. I like “lumpy” pages and these are just a sliver narrow. Personally, having a consistent look to my albums just isn’t something I’ve chosen to be important. They are all piled up (horrors, I know to those who feel these should be upright. I’m not too concerned – mine are not meant to last forever. I’m sure the dump doesn’t have a consistency policy.) If my living room was less eclectic in decor I might care. One of my interior designers once categorized it as having an ‘ethno-contemporary’ look. The family just calls it a jumble of Mom’s travel souvenirs. Maybe I should ask the kids if they like the art and artifacts I collect? On the other hand, no. It might just be that all that stuff is headed for the dump someday, too, LOL! (Better NOT to ask.)

    Hee hee!

My Things We Do albums are generally the light blue cloth album with
embroidered flowers by Amer. Crafts. But that particular category has lots
of subcategories that I want in different colors. For example, in addition
to this dance one, I will eventually move my holiday pages into a holiday
album, or possibly the Halloweens will get their own album and the Xmas’s
will get their own. For those I’ll be choosing their own album covers that
don’t fit in with my usual Things albums.

This is a beautiful album! I’m imagining all the beautiful duet pages inside (Trinity with Noelle choreographing the images across the page). Easier to get away with such a cover then what I have selected for my son. It’s hard to do ‘beautiful’ with boys… even if I feel that way.
