Paperclipping 94 – Embellishment Crescendo

Paperclipping 94 - Embellishment Crescendo
We’ve now released a new episode for the Paperclipping Members on one of our most commonly requested subjects–embellishments. This episode shares the principles of how to make your embellishment gatherings look spectacular.

To give you a chance to get a good detailed look at the layouts and the embellishments, I’ve posted them below…

Sensitive Heart

2-Page Layout 9.5×12 + 12×12
Sensitive Heart
Journaling to my daughter reads: You’re so sensitive. You hurt easily. You feel deeply. And I think it gives you empathy, which explains why you take such good care of others.

What looks like a black strip (above) is actually just clear transparency. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but it looks really cool in person to be able to see through that vertical strip there.

Rock Stars

12×12 Layout
Rock Stars
Journaling to Aiden and Trinity reads: In the back of our yard there is a retaining wall about 1-1/2 feet high. It is directly across from our sliding glass door and when you stand on the wall you can see your reflection. As a result, that retaining wall has become a spot for rock-star fantasies and performing practice.

Today I was able to catch you two (Aiden and Trinity) with your “guitars.” That’s really all it takes–a couple rackets, a raised area, and a reflection–for you to pull the performers out of yourselves and put on a good show.

Life Explorer

12×12 Layout
Life Explorer
Journaling to my son reads: I love your zeal for life. Your curiosity. Your desire to know about everything. I love that you stay up late at night to read. And then you’re up at 5am, ready for another day of your life.

Three different looks, topics, and embellishment gatherings–all using the same principles to make them look great without taking away from the photos. Today’s episode will show you how it works.

Was finally able to make the video work for me.
It's always so delightful to watch the live show on Tuesdays with everyone. What a hoot.
  • Love the new episode! So who won the FRED?
  • Sherry DePaolo won it. She isn't able to participate in Paperclipping Live so you may not know who she is, She's been around a while, though. =)
  • AshleyMoseley
I really LOVE the Sensitive Heart layout! When I saw the video I was just amazed at how beautiful the layout is! WOW! You are very talented, Noell!
  • Thanks. It was part of my Hall of Fame entry.

Hi Noell, my iTunes isn't picking up that there is a new tutorial video? Any suggestions how I can watch it?
  • Sandy, it should be working now! So glad it didn't take more than a few hours...

Thanks Noell, just watched it and loved it. This a topic I needed some direction on and it was like you switched the light on. I would be interested in hearing your brillinace with the 'weight' of particular embellishments and thier placements in regards to other embellishments.
  • It's awesome when something suddenly clicks! I'm glad this helped.

A fairly recent episode was on the relationship of embellishments in terms of scale, and I've been thinking about doing one focusing more on framing the focal point embellishments or creating backgrounds for focal point embellishments. I'll let my brain play with the idea of weight while I do my next few layouts and I'll see what I come up with. If you have any examples of where you think you struggle with embellishment weight relationships, or any other thoughts on this, please send them my way so I can hit this topic from the angle you need.
  • Hi, Sandy. We're changing hosts right now and it could take up to 24 hours before we're all hooked up again...some residual stuff from the big change a couple weeks ago that shut the sites down temporarily.

We waited a day to do it, hoping to give people a chance to watch it before it shut down again. So sorry you missed it! Hopefully it won't be too long before they're available again.
  • I love your embellishments on all of your work. IMHO, you are the best at making these beautiful pieces of art that adorn your pages. Also, there is depth in the details...depth of heart, story, and beauty. I'm so glad to be a member so that I can see how it all comes together.

    Thanks Noell!
  • I totally agree with that!!
  • =)
  • Wow, what a compliment, Liz. Thank you!
  • Great tips!!

I've noticed that, since the videos come with white backround, I have a hard time with keeping my eyes on the screen; I feel it too bright...

Thanks for sharing and for "listening" :o)
  • Great feedback, Mariangeles. Thank you. I shared it with Izzy and he said he felt the same thing while he was editing. We might have one or two more already shot and in the can, but we'll probably stick with the more traditional black background in the future.
