Lain Ehmann’s New Book, Snippets

I suppose there is a lot that we scrapbookers do that is worthy of some laughs. My friend, Lain Ehmann, gathered all of her laugh-at-yourself scrapbook-related moments and wrote them into a book called, Snippets. I had her on as a guest on Paperclipping Live tonight and she wants to give away two copies of her book, plus two copies of Simple Scrapbook’s latest special issue, Quick & Easy Photo Album Scrapbooking!

To qualify for Lain’s giveaway, head over to the Snippets Page to get a sampling of some of the stories in her book. Then come back here to this post and tell Lain which story you most identified with, or which one made you laugh the hardest. Lain will give a copy of Snippets or the special issue to four of you.

You have until Thursday night to leave a comment.

You can order Lain’s book at this link–just in time for Christmas. It’s such an affordable gift idea at only $9.99. Learn more about Lain and all the many ways to enjoy her on her website, GetScrapHappy.

  • Ha! Scrap room envy...Listen my 17 daughter has already been warned. When she goes to college, her room is mine. *Evil Laugh* The good thing is...She is great with it :)
The book sounds amazing and spot on.
  • love all the snippets stories - funny stuff :)
  • amyptucson
I most relate to some of the first lines. Oh how many times I've hid those bags of supplies from my DH! One of the best LSS I go to has a sign in the ladies' room that says, "Your husband just called and he says you can buy anything you want!" I love that! Get it? Permanent sign? To every one of us? Do they know us, or what!
  • Alicia
I am SO like her when it comes to "my space" Why DO kids need a place to store their clothes...
  • Ramona
I love the making time bit most. Can totally identify with it!
  • Connie
I could totally relate to all of Lain's excellent writing about our love of scrapbooking! Right from the very start with the Introduction - I felt like "you had me at Hello!" from Jerry Maguire! My other favorite which truly had me laughing out loud was about the "room" and setting an eyelet from a hammock without cracking someone's coconut. This had been recommended to me by a friend and it is definitely a "must have." Very funny writing about our passion/addiction/obsession with scrapbooking!
  • Laurie Rabatich
I can relate to the stories of the envy of other scrapbooker's space.I dream of a gorgeous space to scrap away & pat myself on the back for the pages created here.
  • Maureen
I can't wait to read the whole book in one sitting! I laughed ALOT when I read the part about her hiding the shopping bags when she came home from her latest shopping spree. She hasn't yet learned my trick of bringing in only a small bag after a big shopping trip. I wait to bring the rest of the haul in, when the house is empty, or when I can at least be sure that all current occupants are thoroughly distracted. (Thoroughly distracted by something noisy enough to cover that sound that the bags make!) Sometimes, it's the next day, even! I never saw any rule that says you HAVE TO unload your car all in the same day...did you?!!!
  • Oh my, I HAVE to have this book...definitely on my Christmas list! Actually, both the book & the special issue already are on my wish list. :) I love the snippet about the room of one's own--it DID make me laugh out loud
  • I loved reading the excerpts from Lain's new book! I love the stories of hiding your shopping bags and the making time for scrapbooking is always a big challenge for me. This is my first visit to your blog and I love it! I will be back often.
  • Marta Gaud
Lain's style is so full of fun and laugh!!! Snippets is a prove of it. I wish you lots of happiness Lain.
  • Nicole
Those snippets were hilarious! I could relate to all of them. I love the scraproom addiction snippet. I can't wait to read the entire book!
  • AnnieB
Loved Making Time. I've ordered my hospital bed and have an ankle injury planned for the day it arrives!
  • Michelle M
My favorite (so far) has got to be making time. I've wanted to try everything on there (did the pregnancy bedrest thing w/ my first pregnancy and I'm STILL trying to make up for lost time!!!) Anyway, I enjoyed taking Lain's BPS challenge this year, and have loved reading the blog too. Congrats on the book!
  • Gotta say that the Intro is pretty darn funny, and I can relate to it more than I would like to admit (especially the part about stashing my stash away from my hubby!!) but, since I just moved to a new house and now have a scrap room just waiting to be decorated (right now it is boxes and a folding table) scoping out other people's scrap rooms has become a hobby that I don't admit to too many people. I just love these stories and can't wait to read more! Hope I win!!
  • I can relate to all of them... The one I most identify with is the "all in the family" story. I've successfully turned 3 of my 4 sisters(in law) and my mom into scrapbookers. It makes me so happy to have one of them show me something that they have done or give me something scrappy for a gift. Tee Hee... Now that I've conquered my family, it's time to take over the world!
  • Danita York
I really enjoyed reading the section titled All in the Family. It didn't happen with a sister for me, but it did happen with my daughter and then one of my sons. Of course, he scraps cool things like pictures of his favorite cars and his pets, but he's getting creative and it is something we can relate to together!
  • Ohhh... picking ONE thing to identify or made me laugh hardest is tough!

I think the excitement of Lain when it was HER SISTER'S IDEA to scrapbook with her probably hit home most. I have been trying for YEARS to get my two sisters and mother to even take a little interest in it. Still trying. ;)
  • Susan
I just love Lain - she's such a hoot! I can relate to all of the stories but really had to smile when I read about the scrapbooking room! I am fortunate enough to have my own scrapbook room , but it is in such a state that I can never find anything and once I begin "digging" I not only find one of what I am looking for, but 3 or 4! This book is a must have for all of us scrapbookers - we can all take a page out of this book and think it was written precisely about us!
  • I love Lain. I have been following her blog for a little over a year now. I am so proud of her new book. I can't wait to get a copy. I can relate to all of her stories...but I love the one about hiding the bags from the LSS. I have done that many times. I am also envious of scrap rooms I see online and in magazine. I have a corner in my bedroom and it is so disorganized.
  • I love the story about her sister becoming a scrapbooker :)

    Corinna www.myscrapbooklife.com
  • Lain rocks!! I think we must lead parallel lives.

I most identify with hiding scrapbook supplies. The thing I miss most about my old van is the "secret" drawer under the front passenger seat. It was great for stashing scrap supplies until the coast was clear.
  • Joy M
Love the All in the Family "snippet". Scrapping is even sweeter when I can get together with my mom & sisters to crop. I invited my mom, my 3 sisters, and my SIL to a CM night at my house nearly 10 years. Most of them got hooked at once, but there was one hold out. The funny thing is that the one hold out is now the most prolific of us all!
  • Making Time is by far my fav...don't think that contracting a debilitating illness hasn't crossed my mind!!!
  • Lynne
When my kids were little I'd use my over the head hair dryer. It was gathering dust for years when I figured out that I could have 45 mins to 1 hour of uninterupted time if I just sat with that thing running on my head. DH couldn't talk to me... "Sorry can't hear you." Kids would get the 'Mommy's drying her hair," or "sorry can't hear you go talk to daddy." Meanwhile I'd get my time to scrap. I think it falls under the "lie" category. I'd cover it up good by really sitting with that noisy dryer on my head.
  • Amy
I can't wait to read the rest of this book! Lain is amazing and I absolutely love her podcast!
  • Wendy Lust
I read the exerp about your scrap space envy. Oh, can I relate! I am actually just now improving my space and am grateful for that. But I have a folder full of photos of scrap "mansions"!
  • eightisenough
What a fun thing to read over the holiday break. Pick me! Please pick me! :) Kari
  • l think she is amazing. l may just have to buy the book it it can get me where am .
  • pennycent
I liked it all, and smiled and then laughed at others. How amazing so many of us experience the same satisfaction with scrapping. I suppose my favorite is finding the "place" to scrapbook, like the "laundry room." How typical of family to desert us when requested to help with the chores! But how sneaky,,, to get time to scrap! thanks for writing these great stories we can all relate to. Penny
  • I can so relate to her stories. I can't wait to share it with my friends.
  • AshleyMoseley
I really loved the story about the scrap room! Before we moved from Texas, I had a small desk with two plastic tubs next to it. It drove my husband CRAZY that I would leave stuff out all the time! The entire time we lived there, I compiled pictures! When we moved to Maryland, I got a craft room!! My husband is a sweetie and said I deserved it. : ) We do not have any kids... and I'm putting it off because we live in a two bedroom townhouse and the military doesn't give you a bigger house just because you want a craft room *and* a nursery!!!
  • jeninmontreeal
I just Love this book!!!! I think that anyone who enjoys scrapping can totally relate to any of these stories. I personally loved the "scrap room envy" snippet, as I also spend hours daydreaming about my perfect little designer scraproom. Ahhh....to dream!!!!!
  • Christine (sunny1016)
"Contract a debilitating disease".... this made me LMAO!! I have often wondered what kind of illness I could feign without really being sick. Something they would just have to believe! I mean come on they would see I can't get out of bed (well except to grab my glue runner and trimmer!)LOL

    Mmmmm....the possibilities! :)
  • Susan B
Hey, I will have to try the "mummy has a headache" trick. Although at the moment I can't even take a shower in private - my 20-month-old just needs to keep checking I am there. And a toddler raking through the scrapbooking supplies... BAAD! Maybe I'll just sick to evening scrapping. No-one would believe I'd want to spend a day working on the house!
  • I definitely have scrap-room envy because I'm in a dorm room where a little part of my room serves as a craft area.... I also enjoy hiding my purchases from my mom and my boyfriend who think I'm ridiculous haha.
  • leftyscraps
Lain: I can so relate to your stories. I was introduced to scrapbooking around the same time you were. I had other hobbies at the time and told myself I did not want another one. I came kicking and screaming into what I thought was just another hobby. Little did I know at the time what it was going to mean to me and my family. Now it is more than just a hobby. When we take a picture we think the story of that picture will be passed on through the family, but so many things are forgotten. My girls will be looking through an album and make comments like, oh I forgot all about that. Moments from our lives are being told and stored for our future family, it is so important!
  • Nadia Diaz
I loved Lain's comedic approach to describing how she makes time to scrapbook. The one story that had me rolling on the floor (well, not quite - i just had surgery on my abdomen, but that's where I would have been...) was how she baited her sister into scrapbooking. I tried to do something similar with my own younger sister, but I just ended up making the book for her instead. It was a win-win situation because I still got to do what I love and I didn't have to spend a weekend crocheting (her crafting hobby).

The book looks wonderful and I can't wait to read more!
  • kdgirl
Hey Lain- love the dot and your Scrap Happy Blog. How's the new puppy??? I missed you live on Paperclipping, but I did watch the recorded show. My favorite thing is your quote about having 12 adhesives and knowing how to use them all. I just need a tool belt to keep them all in!!!
  • What a fun time I had last night on Paperclipping Live! A great show...
The excerpts I read from Snippet are not absolutely hilarious but "oh so true" in my own life! I could really relate to Lain's story about how she felt when her sister first started scrapbooking. When my sister & parents started scrapbooking with me, I also thought it was always one of the best times ever.
I often have to pinch myself to realize that I'm not "normal" when it comes to the way I approach the world because of scrapbooking. We are definitely not like anyone else! HA!..and we like it that way ;)
  • Ritz
What a treat to have Lain on teh show. Thanks. My favorite of the four was teh scraproom story. I too stalk other peoples scraprooms.
  • Karen Campbell
I love the "A Room of One's Own". I have a room (converted daughter's room when she moved out) but it is not fancy or well organizes. I have a couple of those folding tables you get from Sam's and some book shelves. I too drool at all the great rooms that are out there and hope to one day have one just like them.
  • Becky in VA
Haha, the snippets were so funny. I totally relate to the scraproom jealousy/addiction! This would be a great book to win. Thanks for having this giveaway!
  • Erin
I love the get a debilitaing disease... I have to say I have thought of that also.. How sad is that... Wishing I would get sick so I could scrap more.
  • LOL! I totally relate to gluing in magazine snippets of Shawn Cassidy and Harrison Ford to my journal when I was young.

Wished I'd been able to catch the show, live. Bet it was a hoot!

HUGS and many thanks for the chance at the book!
  • Lynda Brothers
This book looks hilarious! My favorite was the part about scrapbooking rooms. I can so identify with that! I do have part of a room for myself (the other half is the office), but it is not a "beautiful" place--its very practical, and often very, very messy. I have often wondered the same things about the scraprooms on the internet and in magazines--"how do they stay so clean? Surely, they can't have children and their room look like that! Does the rest of their home look like that room?"

yep, I'm right there with ya!
  • thetadocz
Have you been reading my diary??? I'm not that funny or good at writing, but that's my life! My husband converted an extra room into a scrap room just for me! It was beautiful, clean and clutter free - and then I moved my scrapbook supplies in. That is the last time we saw the tops of the tables, and most of the floor! My husband keeps making comments like "how do you work in here" " there's no room to move" "if you cleaned this out you would have room to work". Sadly, he just doesn't get it. But Lain does! I will be buying copies for my 2 sister-in-laws, because I got them to start scrapbooking - but they haven't caught the fever yet and they don't understand my room either. I want them to know there are others out there like me. But I would love to win a copy for myself! But I would be happy with a copy of the other book too - I just started doing them myself so I can use all the help I can get. Thanks for the great interview Noell and Lain.
    Susan
  • Adrianne
I relate most to hidding my new treasure...even from my FRIENDS so they don't know just how often I go to the scrapbook store. I can justify like the rest of us that I don't want to have to stop working on a layout just because I am missing something critical to getting the effect I want!
  • Kristyn (kkg9)
Ok--I am totally guilty of scrap room envy! I too, tirelessly search through the scrap room posts in the galleries. As of last weekend, I have a little 3ft corner of our master bed room complete with desk, lamps, and shelves! I have been scrapping only at crops and occasionally the kitchen table because I didn't have a place of my own. My hubby got tired of always seeing my big bags of stash laying around so he helped me set up a place of my own!
I am excited about Lain's book and have added it to my christmas list, but I would really like a copy of the special edition magazine. We have a little boy that just turned 11 months and I need a quick and easy way to scrap him for the grandmothers (he has 8!) so the photo album idea sounds like just what I need!!
Thanks for the opportunity for the give away Lain and Noell! Loved the show last night!
  • Socksmom
I just finished the Excerpts and I agree with Suz.. I think she was spying on me. Actually, I think we all share the same stories. Funny book. It will make a great present.
  • Brenda
I got such a kick out of the "All in the Family" story. Scrapbooking has become, for me, not only an obsession, but a virus. When I talk about my hobby (to just anybody who will sit still), I'm aware that I give off a definite 'passion' vibe, and I've discovered that it is truly 'catching'. My daughter has started scrapping with me, and my MIL has asked me lots of questions that lead me to believe she's next. I'm sure that if I had a copy of Snippets, I'd see myself in more than one story, and have plenty of laughs along the way. Of course, I'd have to share it around and let other people read it too. Gotta spread the virus...oops! I mean 'love'!!
  • I love the "A Room of One's Own" snippet! So true! So funny! I've got to get this book!
  • Susan
I also suffer from scraproom envy. My daughter has a toy room that would be SO perfect. It even has expedit bookcases! I am just waiting for the day when she no longer "needs" so much toy space. But since she is 7 I think I have a few more years to wait.

    Susan
  • sydbean
Loved her humor. As far as my strategies go to make scrapbooking time, I've never had a debilitating disease, but I can think of certain times it would have come in handy just to get a few moments alone with a little peace and quite thrown in for good measure.
  • Renee D
I love Lain's idea of pulling a Houdini. She so right everyone is under foot until you declare it to be cleaning time. Hummm.... I'll ahve to try that the next I want some scrappy peace and quiet.
  • Tanya
I can't wait to get this book! I can SO relate to having to put everything away and take it back out again every time I want to scrapbook! I had to laugh when she said it is enough to keep her in magnetic albums for the rest of her natural-born life - lol! ~Tanya
  • tmarie37
I'm also guilty of getting a few people into scrapbooking. And, totally leaving out the part about getting caught up. After all if I added that part I may lose them from scrapping forever. Also, know too well about hiding the purchases. Do you know how hard it is to hide a FRED!!!
  • TrayChic
I agree with Lain in "A Room of One's Own" that even though I have a scrapping "space", I wish I had an entire room dedicated to scrapping. In a past issue of Scrapbooks Etc magazine, some of the editors and designers shared photos of their scraprooms and WOW was I jealous. I have a "scrap room" in the guestroom closet. I got the Crop-in-Style modular furniture (and yes, the 12x12 paper file cabinet), turned it into a desk, and made my own little room. A copy of Snippets would sure look great on the bookshelf in there... *wink wink*
  • the bit about hiding shopping bags made me laugh!! it's so true!!
(i just came home from the LSS and hid the bags under some stuff next to my desk... this was before reading the story...) :)
  • carriegel
lol, very funny book. my sister "lured" me into scrapbooking too so i can relate to her story about her sister. i plan on buying this book for my sister but it would sure be nice to win one for mysefl.
  • Nicole
I loved reading the little snippets!! what an interesting read!! and she's funny too!! =) http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/images/stories/magazines/simple_scrapbooks/books/SnippetsPromo.pdf
  • I can so relate to all the stories! I think you must be spying on me.... Lately I've been guilty of the "seed planting" & gentle manipulation to get friends involved in this crazy hobby - so that really tickled me. And who hasn't hidden bags after making yet another trip to the LSS - "oh that... I've had that forever... right?
