Paperclipping 71 Working With Newsprint

Paperclipping 71-Working With Newsprint
After years of trying to find a good way to adhere newspaper articles (and believe me, the obvious ways don’t look so hot), I’ve finally found one I love. In fact, I’d say it’s probably the best way. Today’s episode for Paperclipping Members shows you step-by-step how to do it, and what pitfalls to avoid.

Below are the layouts from today’s episode…

On The Table
12×12 Layout

Two-page 12×12 Layout

Historic Win–In the album
with journal card and 8.5×11 insert

On the journal card I placed an article that demonstrates the changes in American perceptions over time.

I printed up the inspiring acceptance speech by President Elect Obama from election night on this 8.5×11 page.

I too had the idea of doing a page of the election. I love what you have done with it. Thanks for the ideas.

Love your technique for this one Noell. Just wondering if you're happy to share the story behind the layout in the video. How cool you were in a newpaper article!
  • Sandy, mornings with my local paper used to be my daily pleasure a couple years ago. I gave that up to have time to do Paperclipping (a much better pleasure!). I had a handful of letters to the editor printed and I had signed up with them online so I'd get queries on local topics they were looking to do. The topics rarely applied to me, but one time they asked about coffee tables that weren't totally typical. I replied that I had an ottoman that we used a our coffee table and they called me right away for an interview and sent over a photographer. Really fun.

I've always liked joining in on community conversations. It used to be the paper, now it's new media with this podcast, twitter, facebook, etc. Good stuff.
  • Super cool layout and interactivity. I am a huge fan of black and white, and the hint of color used. I will never forget this night and plan to scrap it soon! My husband brought home a newspaper for me that same day after hearing the buzz on how many people were snatching them up... so I appreciate how timely this is.
  • BTW, I haven't added my own thoughts to this layout yet. On the night of the election, I was on Twitter and Facebook, sending out my thoughts, so I plan to go back and write those down and put them on the back of the journal cards.
  • I am grateful for technology and being able to jot those things down in the moment... and then being able to find them when needed! ;)

I'm also doing a layout about this election and have several items to include - newspaper stuff, an election button, photos of the voting experience etc. I'm happy you brought this up. Where are you putting this LO in your albums? Things we do? (voting) I'm not sure what to do with mine yet.
  • At first I put it in my Things We Do album, but then I moved it to my Where We Are one instead (Stacy calls it, "Places We Go."). Right now that album has layouts of our home, our neighborhood, town, and vacations.

I'm not sure it'll stay there--it may go right back to the Things We Do album, LOL. I love the flexibility of the 3-ring binders and Stacy Julian's method. Over time, one album may make sense over the other, depending on what other layouts I end up doing, you know?
